Mary Ann Smith Print E-mail

Mary Ann Smith (nee Nilges) 89 years old of Elyria, Ohio passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve at the home of her daughter in Litchfield, Ohio.

Mrs. Smith was born on December 8, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio and made her home in Elyria for most of her life. She was employed as an office manager for several auto dealerships and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria. She was an opera lover, an avid reader, loved riding the Senior Bus to the lake and playing cards with her friends. She was a phenomenal mother.

Surviving her are five children, Stephen (Sharon) Haines of Middleburg Heights, David (Karen) Haines of Amherst, Christine (Ridgely) Conant of Litchfield, Roberta Haines of Elyria, and Alan (Pam) Haines of Columbia Station. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Betty Lou Kreeger and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert John and Emma (nee Regner) Nilges; her 1st husband, Charles L. Haines, her 2nd husband, Dayton W. Smith; brothers, Robert and Gilbert Nilges; sister, Rosemary Nilges.

There will be a memorial visitation on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio for 4 to 7 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Avenue, Elyria, Ohio with the Reverend Father Charles Diedrick, Pastor, officiating.
