Carl KoeppCarl Z. Koepp, 93, a lifelong resident of Elyria, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018 at the Abbewood in Elyria surrounded by his family. Carl was born August 8, 1925 in Elyria, where he has made his home his entire life.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Admiralty Islands in the South Pacific. He was Post Commander and a life time member of the Elyria American Legion Post #12. He was also a member of the Elyria VFW Post #1079.

Carl was a lifetime, active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria. Before and after World War II, he was an employee for the Pittsburgh Steamship Co. working on the ore ships on the Great Lakes. He was a member of the Elyria Police Department for 27 years serving from 1952 until his retirement in 1978. During retirement he worked in security for EST Bank. His hobbies included fishing, golfing and hunting in his younger years. Carl's greatest enjoyment was spending his winters with Blanche and his family in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida.

He is survived by one daughter, Dawn (James) Reichlin of Elyria; son, Richmond (Charlene) Rankin of Wellington; grandchildren, Patrick Reichlin and Jennifer (Michael Gidich) Reichlin and great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Cameron Murphy.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Blanche A. Koepp (nee Longwell) in 2010; sister, Violet who died in infancy; brothers, Henry and Kenneth Koepp and by his parents, Henry and Anna Koepp (nee Zarnke).

Friends may call Saturday, August 25, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, 1140 W. River Rd. N., Elyria from 10 A.M. until the time of funeral services at 11 A.M. The Reverend Bill Mugnola will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, where the U.S. Navy will provide Military Honors.

Carl's family would like to thank the staff at Abbewood and Crossroads Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Carl and his family.

Memorial contributions in Carl's memory may be given to St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria.
