Gerald ByrdGerald Byrd, 54, died unexpectedly on November 6, 2018 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Gerald was born on November 22, 1963 in San Diego, California to Robert and Kathy Byrd. Gerald graduated from Bethel Park High School and then attended Summa College where he studied business. He then decided that he wanted to see the world, so he joined the United States Navy. After serving his time, Gerald moved to North Ridgeville to be with his loving parents. In 1992, he met Betty Young of Elyria, Ohio. Gerald accepted Christ and became a member at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oberlin, Ohio. Later, the two packed up and moved to Oceanside, California where they married in 1994. The two lovebirds were inseparable. When you saw one you saw the other. Gerald worked as a truck driver for over 23 years. At the time of his death, he worked for M & M Cartage Co.

Gerald leaves behind his loving wife of 23 years, Betty Byrd of Louisville, Kentucky, his mother and father, Robert and Kathy Byrd of North Ridgeville, his loving stepchildren, Markell (Megan) Young of Lorain, Antoine Perkins of Elyria, Tanesha (Tyrone)Thompson of Louisville, Sterling (Melanie) Perkins of Indiana; two loving sisters, Roxanna Byrd Hatten of Elyria and Gigi Depew of North Ridgeville; his twin brother, Gerard of Virginia; and a host of loving grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews which he loved so much.

Gerald is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Donna Bankhead and Shelly and Herbert Byrd. Gerald will be truly missed by many.

Homegoing services will be on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 47 Locust Street, Oberlin, Ohio with viewing from 11 AM to the time of funeral services at 12:00 Noon. The Reverend Fred Bell will officiate. Gerald’s final resting place will be in Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin, Ohio.

The Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio is handling the arrangements.
